Aje Hill:  CEO and Lead Mentor

Hi! My name is Aje Hill and I am the founder and head mentor of I Believe In Me Inc. Born and raised in Frederick, Maryland, I come from a loving family of both parents and an older brother.  I had all of the opportunities available for me to lead a successful and positive lifestyle, however, due to a variety of different circumstances, I found myself living the street life.  While becoming addicted to the game and the fast way of life, I quickly found myself getting in trouble with the law; one of which in 2009 I was arrested for a major drug distribution charge resulting in a twenty year prison sentence, all but eight years of those suspended.

While incarcerated I realized that I no longer had control over my life and admitted to myself that life had become unmanageable.  Through the pain, the hurt I caused my family and myself, and the loneliness I faced behind bars, I decided to do one of the hardest things in life; change. I decided to no longer be a menace to society; that with strong family support, love of God, and many support groups, I am now a positive and productive member of society.  Within the mentor group our mission is to provide for our youth an opportunity at a future whereby they are the objects of, rather than the subject of their own reality. It is my hopes and passion that I can save as many children as possible from the negative choices I once made.

Erin Roelke: COO/Treasurer

Hello! My name is Erin Roelke and I am so honored to be a part of this wonderful organization. Life has not always been easy for me and there have been many situations that have tried to take me off the path of my goals. However, through resilience, perseverance, and determination I was able to earn my Bachelors of Arts in History with a secondary education certificate from Hood College and my Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel College; overall achieving my life long goal of being an educator. I am currently a 6th and 7th grade history teacher at Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School, in Frederick.

I am a part of this program because I know how hard it is to stay on the right road when everything seems to be against you. I know how easy it is to give up and give in. I believe in hope, change, redemption, and giving back to those who need a hand up in society. Many of my students are a part of this program and I have seen the impact Aje has on their lives- - I am so blessed to be a part of this movement. While you may not find me at the program, I am behind the scenes working on organization, financial and operational assistance. I do hope, as the program expands, to begin impacting the youth more on the academic level as I create educational programs to eliminate their current struggles within the classroom.

Megan McMahon: Program Assistant

Hello!  My name is Megan McMahon and I am blessed to be a mentor in the I Believe In Me program. I live in Frederick with my loyal sidekick Nino and I am a bartender at Dutches Daughter. I had been following Aje's progress with the program on Facebook and reached out to see if he needed volunteers.  I offered to read to the kids one afternoon and the rest as they say is history!  I fell instantly in love with the kids in the program.  Growing up is hard enough, even under the best circumstances, and I was in awe of the things these children had to overcome already in their short lives.  I had been going through some tough times in my own life;  by helping the kids to believe in themselves and their abilities it allowed me to finally apply those same teachings to my own life.  They have taught me so much about life and I am grateful for every opportunity I have to help them in any way.  Each child in the program has a special place in my heart and I hope to continue to watch them grow and prosper for many years to come!
